Only a few places in Chemnitz recall the flair of the old city before its destruction in the days of the Second World War. In the district of Schloßchemnitz, a part of it has been preserved. The 1920s and 30s have remained just as alive here as the early 50s. Due to its urban and architectural qualities, the neighbourhood is one of the most popular residential areas. Most of the buildings have been renovated and gaps between buildings have been filled. If you want to get your chance here, you have to be quick.
The lavishly restored apartment building at Matthesstraße 78 is a typical Wilhelminian style building with a clinker brick façade and decorative elements in the neo-renaissance style.
